When you’re craving your usual pick-me-up from Starbucks but can’t have it, the start of your day is just a little off. Thankfully, making a latte can easily be done with a Keurig machine – from the comfort of your kitchen.
In this article, you’ll learn how to make a latte with a Keurig in just 3 easy steps.
What is a latte?
Latte is an espresso-based drink made with espresso and steamed milk. Lattes have a balanced flavor and a rich, creamy taste.
This creamy combination makes a beautiful base for whatever flavor you want to add, like vanilla, caramel or chocolate.
Can you make a latte with Keurig?
So, can Keurig make lattes? Well, since lattes are made with espresso, you need espresso machine for an authentic latte. Keurig machines can’t do espresso but only regular coffee, so they can’t make traditional espresso-based lattes.
But, you can make cafe au lait – a latte version made with regular coffee instead of espresso. The taste is very close to lattes but you don’t need an espresso machine to make this recipe.
Coffee to milk ratio
The usual ratio for lattes is 1:3 or 1:4 espresso to milk. Since espresso coffee is stronger than drip coffee, for cafe au lait we need more coffee and less milk. A good ratio for lattes, when prepared with regular coffee, is 1:1 coffee to milk.
To get the best taste, I recommend using dark roasted k cups and 2% or whole milk. More milk fat will make the drink more creamy.
You’ll see, your homemade latte is going to be as creamy and as tasty as the real one.
It’s the perfect foundation for extra flavor as well. You can add vanilla-flavored syrup or caramel sauce. You can also use some fun coffee creamer like Irish cream or cinnamon roll. Any combination of flavors is possible.
The drink is also beautiful with almond or coconut milk. You can even make your own oat milk lattes with this recipe.
So let’s get to the recipe, shall we?
Keurig latte recipe
You will need:
1 dark roasted k cup
4 ounces milk
sugar, flavored syrup – optional
Directions:
Step 1: Brew a k cup using the smallest cup option on your brewer. The 4 oz cup size would be ideal, but you can also use a 6 oz cup if that’s the smallest size on your coffee maker.
Step 2: Pour 4 ounces cold milk in the milk frother and froth until hot and foamy. If you don’t have the frother, you can heat the milk on the stovetop in a small saucepan until steaming. Then use a hand frother or whisk to froth the milk.
